9/16/2023 0 Comments Ma al drakarPS: I'll do a display base terrain addition to this project later, once I get it back from its current store display tour (last pic #9). I can see thousands of things I could continue with if I'm being honest, and I really appreciate thoughts of others. □□□□□įeedback and questions very welcomed. Completing projects feels incredible, and very empowering for learning, and moving onto new challenges with more knowledge. This is a project I'm very proud to have gotten to this stage. The idea of painting this as one piece glued together was a nightmare I did not want to deal with. I decided not to gap fill, a personal choice made once I committed to painting in parts. * First time dealing with a piece painted in stages and parts separated. * First time having to recover a part mid project, by stripping, and completely redoing those parts (remember the blue and white dragon head post with super clean? Fun times □□) Learned a lot doing this project, and grateful I participated in the Reaper Bones 3 Kickstarter (my fave Kickstarters □) Spots on the wings are thanks to vinyl stencils (great product, very useful) Glazing with brush mostly for the horns, and eyes, mouth and wing membranes towards the ends. Used mostly drybrush for the body and wings, and also some airbrush for the wings and shading certain areas. □□ MA'AL DRAKAR / TIAMAT - Dragon Tyrant - Final ! □□įinally found some dry and sunny days to get the final varnish coats on, and call this 2020 dragon project done! #reaperminiatures #miniaturepainting #dnd #vallejo #iwataairbrush #tabletopgaming #miniature #dndminiatures #dndminis #coolminiornot #maaldrakar #maaldrakardragontyrant #turbodork #turbodorkpaints #goblintowngames A Queens SummonsFigure: Maal DrakarSculptor: Julie GuthrieManufacturer: Reaper MiniaturesMedium: BonesiumIn this special two part episode of MGPaints I go. I don't know we'll see where the airbrush takes me today. Maybe start shifting some of the colors on some of the horns and highlight areas. Going to do a little work today to start fleshing out the primary colors on the rest of the body. Super excited to keep working on this big guy. The areas where the colors blended make the most amazing highlights as the scales blend into one another. A little bit of Vallejo airbrush flow improver in either a two to one or about a 50/50 mix seems to work really well. The pictures don't do it justice, these color shift paints are amazing and they seem to go on pretty flawlessly with my Iwata airbrush. a little bleached bone dry brush on top of black primer to bring out some highlights. I was so excited that I decided that the largest miniature in my collection was going to make those paints a highlight piece. I based it off this Deviantart color palette. It was as much practice as it was anything else. Very happy with the results, Tia-Not is currently sitting on my entertainment center and terrifying my players. Thanks goes out to John Bates at Goblin Town Games in Pocatello Idaho for suggesting these paints. So, it took me 8 days of work, about 50 - 60 hours or so, but I finally finished my first Maal Drakar. So I started painting Ma'al Drakar Being painted with Turbo Dork metallic paints.
