I can use Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, a flash drive… any other drive to store my code and share it with everyone! Here's another problem of development without Git: several developers will work on the same project, and they'll also need access to previous app versions. How can you know which exact app version is the one you need? Git, on the other hand, can tell you what project version you're restoring. Restoring a project from several places, however, isn't a viable option. Without Git, you'd have to save each version of the project to a different place. When you remove or rework code, you can't restore its previous state (read: version). Therefore, you create a third version of your app. Still later, you decide to rework the first feature. But the next day you develop the first feature, and thus you create a second version of the app. These basic files constitute the first version of your application. When you start a new project, you create several basic files. The #1 problem of life without Git is that you can't adequately manage project versions. Sadly, your life as a web developer will also be complicated without Git, and here's why. Git is very complicated, as you can't learn all its concepts by just using it. Having a Git cheat sheet taped to our table doesn't help. Do this by running: git commit -m "Delete file. Most of us dislike Git on the first try even after running the most basic Git commands. As soon as you commit this change and push it to GitHub, the file will be removed from the repo on GitHub as well. Git will tell us the deleted file is staged for commit. If in doubt, carefully look at output of each command in the terminal screenshot below. Effectively, git add takes all the changes into account and stages those changes for commit. git add can be used when we are adding a new file to Git, modifying contents of an existing file and adding it to Git, or deleting a file from a Git repo. I know we are deleting the file, but we still run git add because we need to tell Git about the change we are making. If you do git status now, Git says there is a file that is not staged for commit and it has been deleted from the local copy of the repo. One way is to remove the file from our local copy of the repo with this command: rm file.txt What if we discovered we made an error and need to delete file.txt from our repo. With these steps, you can create as many files as you like, add them to Git, and commit and push them up to GitHub. This is Git's way of telling you that there is a new file in the repo directory on your computer that you haven't told Git about, and Git is not tracking that file for any changes you make. Git reports that you have an untracked file (named file.txt) in your repository. This will create a new file named file.txt. Now that we have modified a file and updated it on GitHub, let's create a new file, add it to Git, and upload it to GitHub. Run: echo "This is a new file" > file.txt I will explain what "master" means in the next article, when we discuss branching.) Add a new file to Git (To refresh your memory on what "origin" means in this case, refer to the first article in this series. The next line directs us to push those changes to origin/master, and that is what we did. The first line indicates there is one commit in the local repo but not present in origin/master (i.e., on GitHub). (use "git push" to publish your local commits) Git status says: Your branch is ahead of 'origin/master' by 1 commit The bottom-right corner of the terminal shows that I committed the changes, checked the Git status, and pushed the changes to GitHub. Once you navigate to that URL, click the "Clone or download" button, and your browser should look something like this: (If you have not yet created a Demo repo, jump back to that article and do those steps before you proceed here.) To clone your file, just open your browser and navigate to (where is the name of your own repo. Let's clone the repo, called Demo, we created in the last article. (You could also download the repo as a ZIP file, but we'll explore the clone method in this article.) What should you do? Download your files from GitHub? Exactly! We call this "cloning" in Git terminology. Say you already have a Git repo on GitHub and you want to get your files from it-maybe you lost the local copy on your computer or you're working on a different computer and want access to the files in your repository. eBook: An introduction to programming with Bash.Try for free: Red Hat Learning Subscription. 9/18/2023 0 Comments Nootka rose garlicRussian red garlic ( Allium sativum ‘Russian Red’) is a hardneck-type purple stripe cultivar that’s spicy when raw but slightly sweet when roasted. Too many times leaders make harsh criticisms about those with a different style or approach. Leaders that judge others are not listening. Great leaders know how to balance the head and the heart. Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan were masters of showing empathy towards others. I realize that many leaders avoid emotional interactions, but the best leaders know how to empathize and make themselves approachable to those who need attention. If you are an old-school leader, don’t be afraid to express sentiment or feel that it will weaken your stature or authority as a leader.Įmpathy is a powerful display of listening. Because every employee manages stress and pressure differently, it is important that you are empathetic to how these distractors impact employee performance.Įxpress your concern and show your employees that you feel their frustrations. The workplace is fueled with the stress and pressure of each day. To this day, I am extremely grateful for having such a compassionate leader as a boss – as he gave me the extra incentive to be my authentic self. He made me feel that he was listening because he valued and applied what he interpreted about my style into action. Many times he asked me to lead meetings when he was pulled away by the executive team. Instead of trying to mold me into being someone I wasn’t, he embraced my style and learned to use it to help stimulate team meetings. I once had a boss who told me that I had a unique way of expressing myself in meetings. When you engage yourself more actively, hold yourself accountable and follow-up with your employees, they will know that you are listening, paying attention and attempting to understand what matters most to them. When they share their opinions, ask questions and encourage them to elaborate and expand upon their perspectives. Employees want leaders who care about their general well-being and who can be depended upon during times of professional and personal hardships.īeyond caring, engage yourself in matters important to your employees. Many leaders have told me that their employee relationships end at work. Don’t just view your employees as tools and resources for your own success – but as people and valuable assets who bring unique capabilities and aptitudes not necessarily limited to their job functions. Employees want to be led by those who genuinely care about who they are and what they represent to the team and organization at-large. When you care about your employees, they tend to work harder and aim to exceed your expectations. Fortunately, this experience awakened me to become a better overall listener a more compassionate leader. Instead, I waited until her performance started to wane. I could have been a more compassionate leader, had I sensed the early warning signs and taken more immediate action. Needless to say, it was obvious that I hadn’t been “listening” to her. Since she had only been on the job for 8 months, she didn’t want to share her personal problems with me (nor did she have to) fearing that it would change my perception of her – especially since I was the one who had hired her. She responded by telling me that she had some personal problems at home impacting her ability to stay focused during her steep learning curve. When her performance started to negatively impact the bottom-line, I asked her if there was something I could do to help. But over time, her demeanor changed and I noticed that she wasn’t as engaged and enthusiastic about her work. At first, our relationship was solid we communicated effectively and she quickly created impact. Listening should be a full-time job when you consider the uncertainty embedded in the workplace and the on-going changes taking place.ĭuring the early stages of my corporate career, I hired an employee ten years my senior. It requires you to be aware of body language, facial expressions, mood, and natural behavioral tendencies. Listening goes well beyond being quiet and giving someone your full attention. You know the leaders who have their employees’ best interests at heart because they truly listen to them.Īs a leader, it’s difficult to really know what your employees are thinking about, what’s troubling them or how to help them get out of a performance slump –unless you take the time listen to them. Leaders who listen are able to create trustworthy relationships that are transparent and breed loyalty. As employees seek more attention, feedback and support, leaders must become more mindful of individual needs in order to more effectively inspire professional development and overall performance. When employees say they want their voices to be heard, they are really saying they want leaders who will not just hear them, but really listen to them. KATHRYNN COBBS: Universal is one of the top haunted attractions in the world. Cobbs and Tomberlin attribute the strong debut to their combined experience.īRETT TOMBERLIN: I come from working at Disney Kathryn comes from working with John Murdy at Halloween Horror Nights. The 2011 Fright Nights Halloween event at Winchester Mystery House earned favorable response. Now all the souls that perished by the Winchester rifle are seeking revenge upon any tourists they can find. Our story line for this year is that Sarah actually had her front door boarded up, and no one could ever enter, so our story is that one of the tours – Tour 13 – one of the kids decided to leave the tour and the kid unfortunately goes through the front door, which acts as a portal between heaven and hell. KATHRYNN COBBS: It’s more about the legend and the house itself than the typical gory-gross Halloween attraction.īRETT TOMBERLIN: Very much away from SAW. We begin filming in early 2012, so it’s a very exciting time for the Winchester Mystery House.Īfter the initial decision to do a Halloween attraction, the next question was: What sort of Halloween attraction? The goal was to tie in with the history of the house itself as much as possible.īRETT TOMBERLIN: What can you do with this? How can we incorporate the history to make it a scary experience without over-the-top gore? I’m producing it with Exclusive Media Group, who did THE WOMAN IN BLACK with Daniel Radcliffe. We’re doing a WINCHESTER MYSTERY HOUSE movie. Also the upcoming movie had a hand in that. It wasn’t until, quite frankly, the “Comment” boxes started filling up, asking “Why don’t you do a themed maze at Halloween?” that the board at Winchester Mystery House finally decided to give it a shot. They were doing them on Friday the 13th and a few Halloween nights they were selling out, and they didn’t want to mess with success. Why did none emerge until 2011?īRETT TOMBERLIN: They had a success with their flashlight tours for many years. With its allegedly haunted history, it seems a natural for a Halloween attraction. The Winchester Mystery House, built by rifle heiress Sarah Winchester, is a California State Historical Landmark that has been designated as one of the World’s Most Haunted Places by the Travel Channel. To learn more about Fright Nights, Hollywood Gothique conducted this interview with two of the movers and shakers behind the Halloween attraction, Kathrynn Cobbs (show director, formerly of Halloween Horror Nights) and Brett Tomberlin (President of Imagination Design Works, which produces Fright Nights). Both are included in the price of admission. The interior tour takes 35 minutes the exterior haunt lasts forty minutes. This serves as a sort of backstory of the Halloween haunt, “The Curse of Sarah Winchester: The Resurrection,” which takes place on the grounds around the Mystery House. The year-round tourist destination – whose architectural oddities were designed to confuse evil spirits – exploits its allegedly haunted history with a night-time, flashlight-only version of its standard daytime tour, featuring silent actors in period costumes for atmosphere only – no jump-scares. The 2012 version of Fright Nights is currently scaring audiences up north in San Jose, California. Winchester Mystery House – renowned because of its mysterious secret passages, corridors that lead nowhere, and staircases that descend and then ascend without landing anywhere – launched Fright Nights, its first ever Halloween haunt, to glowing reviews and immediate success in 2011. Pop quiz, Halloween Hot Shots! What’s better: a haunted house or a Halloween haunt? Are the staged illusions better than the real thing (assuming there is a real thing)? Come to think of it, why choose one or the other when you can have both? 9/18/2023 0 Comments Ark dodo namesThe following are spawn maps where the Dodo can be foundĪberrant Dodo Spawn Location The Aberrant Dodo only spawns in the Aberration and Valguero maps. Breeding Eggĭodos can breed rather quickly and once two of the opposite gender have mated, a Fertilized Dodo Egg will drop from the female which can be distinguished by its small shape and white color along with brown spots. There is no saddle for Dodos and they are clearly too small to ride as any attempt to do so would most likely squish them. How to Tame Dodo?ĭodos are slow and harmless and you can easily take them out with a club and even punch them to sleep but be careful with other weapons as these can possibly kill the Dodo with one hit. Since Dodos are harmless, they are often ignored by survivors which grants the opportunity to make a Dodo bomb by strapping C4 and commanding them to go to enemies or dropping them.ĭodos can also be infected with swamp fever and can be dropped in enemy based to be killed, spreading the infection similar to a bioweapon. You can leave Dodos nearby to get killed by enemies that are careless enough to do so to get an early warning of their arrival. Uses Food Sourceĭodos do not have many uses but can be considered a good source of food and their eggs may be put to use through cooking. The Dodo does not have anything special about it other than the fact that it can be pretty amusing at times and you and your tribe can play “Toss the Dodo” when bored. It appears that the more Dodo that are present in a pack, the more confident they are in attacking their targets.ĭodos do not appear to have much use when domesticated aside from being a source for food as they lack the means to carry anything around and are too dumb to be companions. This species of Dodo stays populated due to the fact they constantly mate and can reach full maturity within a short period of time. Dossier Dossier Summaryĭodos are considered to be one of the dumbest creatures that have ever been found amongst all of the other inhabitants that exist. When approached by a survivor, these creatures will continue to cluelessly walk around but once they are attacked or notice one of their kind attacked, they will immediately run away, even heading off cliffs or swimming into the deadly ocean.ĭodos are usually tamed for collecting eggs while some prefer to have them as pets or a back-up source of food as these creatures reproduce quickly and it is easy to get a flock of them. The Raphus Replicare is a species of bird from the late Holocene period which is oblivious to almost everything around it and has a herbivorous diet.Ībsolutely no one should ever feel threatened by this creature as it is pretty much clueless of what is going on around it most of the time.ĭodos are pretty much one of the lowest creatures in the food chain and get killed by almost anything, even by accident. 9/17/2023 0 Comments Resorts in key biscayneTropical palms and botanical vistas adorn the walls, window treatments and ceiling, enveloping you in an immersive painterly, flora interior landscape.
